NOTIFICATION REGARDING SCHOOL TIMING FOR HIGH & HIGHER SECONDARY SECTIONS ISSUED ON 13.08.2025

Punjab Government Announces Staggered School Reopening Schedule for 2025

Parents and students across Punjab, take note! The Government of the Punjab School Education Department has issued a crucial update regarding the commencement of the new academic session. In a recent notification, the authorities have outlined a clear, staggered schedule for school reopenings, ensuring a smooth transition back to classrooms.

If your child is in the higher grades, you can expect an earlier start to the school year. The notification clearly states that classes for 9th, 10th, Intermediate, O Level, and A Level—across all public and private schools in the province—will officially begin from Monday, August 18, 2025. This decision prioritizes students in critical examination years, giving them more time to cover their extensive syllabi and prepare for their board exams.

For younger learners, the summer break will be a little longer. The notification specifies that classes from Grade 1 to Grade 8 (and all grades below) will resume their academic activities later, from Monday, September 1, 2025. This phased approach helps manage the back-to-school rush, allows school administrations to focus on one cohort at a time, and can help ensure better logistical planning, especially for transportation and health protocols.

An important point for all schools and parents to remember is that the school timings will remain unchanged. The notification reaffirms that the schedule already communicated in an earlier official order (dated March 25, 2025) will remain in effect. This provides consistency and allows families to plan their routines without last-minute changes.

The government has taken this step to bring clarity and uniformity to the academic calendar. By issuing a single, overriding notification, they have superseded any previous orders dated August 7, 2025, to avoid any confusion. The directive has been sent to all Chief Executive Officers of District Education Authorities (DEAs), with strict instructions to ensure these guidelines are followed "in letter and spirit."

What This Means for You:

· Senior Students (Grades 9-12, O/A Levels): Mark your calendars for August 18th. It's time to switch back to school mode and hit the ground running.

· Parents of Younger Children (Playgroup to Grade 8): Enjoy the extended summer break until the end of August. School will start on September 1st.

· For Everyone: Confirm the specific school timings with your respective school administration, as they are following the previously set schedule.

Staying informed is key to a successful start to the school year. We recommend keeping an eye on official communications from your child’s school for any further specific instructions. Here’s to a productive and successful 2025-26 academic year for all students in Punjab
